The plate slot allows you to place a plate or bowl low, under the board so you can easily slide food onto the plate. The juice groove around the edges helps prevent juices from dripping off the edge of the cutting board, which also saves you time on cleanup.
This cutting board can also function as a serving board, which makes it perfect because a wooden serving board adds elegance to any meal.
